Tim and Mel are long distance lovers. Tim has just purchased an engagement ring for Mel and wants to mail it to her. Unfortunately the only way to ensure the ring will be received is to place a lock on the package. Tim has locks and Mel has locks but neither have keys for each others locks. How can they ensure the ring isn't stolen?

Common Wrong Answers

Tim sends the package locked with his lock only.

If Tim only uses his lock, Mel cannot open the package to retrieve the ring, leaving it inaccessible.

Tim sends the package without any locks.

Sending the package without locks exposes the ring to the risk of theft during transit.

Tim and Mel both send their locks separately to each other first.

Sending locks separately does not secure the ring in transit, leaving it vulnerable to theft.
